Nishioka's Comeback Continues with a Title at the Shenzhen Open!

Date
01 October 2018

SHENZHEN, China -- Yoshihito Nishioka (JPN) battled through three tough sets to capture his first ATP World Tour trophy with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Pierre-Hugues Herbert (FRA). The 23-year-old was playing his seventh match in eight days and in the first final of his young career.

After Herbert's forehand return sailed long on match point, Nishioka fell to the ground in celebration and relief. Just 18 months ago, the up-and-coming star tore his ACL in his left knee in practice at the 2017 Miami Open. After months of grueling rehabilitation, Nishioka returned the the court nearly a year later with a ranking that had dropped outside the top-300.

Nishioka will return to his home country for the Japan Open where he will face Nick Kyrgios in the first round.
