Born in Puerto Rico and first introduced to tennis by her mother, she quickly turned pro at the age of 17 and made her first break into the top 40 WTA rankings by 2016. By then, Puig was already well-known as a strong player around the world, making history by becoming the first athlete to win an Olympic gold medal while representing Puerto Rico. Her favorite surface is hardcourt and would classify her play style as aggressive.
